Dantalion was once a god that betrayed his people, and was treated as a human once he was forced into a contract with Lucifer. His true identity is discussed but unrevealed. He comes from a country in the far north where the summer was short and the winter long, and he destroyed that country when the night was the longest, during the Winter Solstice.

He killed many people (so many people that the sea turned red), an entire tribe and destroyed their land. He still has nightmares about the time, when people told him he should not have been born into the world, that it was because he was born that their tribe was destroyed. He became known as "the Fluetist", due to his crimes and because he played the flute.

He formed a contract with Lucifer, the emperor of hell. He is the first and only who has formed a contract with Lucifer, which gives him the right to become substitute king even though he's nephilim, a demon who once was human. He's a one-of-a-kind demon, as the only family member of Lucifer.

Humans who sin and form a contract with demons while they are still alive fall into hell once they die, and there, they suffer "eternal pain and can never be saved", and then become a demon. They have to fight their way from the lowest level of hell, and up as far as they can. Dantalion has come very high up.

He became Asatroth's protege, and earned the title of a Duke, and the command of 36 legions of Hell.

When Solomon was young, Dantalion visited the boy who was trapped in a tower by his father, questioning if the boy, Solomon wanted to become king. At the time, Dantalion was a young demon as well. He was surprised by Solomon's calm at encountering a demon, even more surprised that Solomon knew his identity, and then Solomon's proclamation of having decided to start "the beginning of this world's nightmare". When Dantalion tried to take his sould, Solomon raised a magic circle around him, and as Solomon's first pillar, given the number of 71, he thought that what Solomon wanted was revenge.

But as years passed, Solomon only lived happily, with his pillars as family and friends. When he stayed with Solomon, Jerusalem became like a second home to him, where he didn't have to be lonely, like he often was in the demon world.

When Solomon's father seem to be closing in as a threat to Solomon's life, Dantalion turn to Solomon to ask him to allow Dantalion to kill Solomon's father, before Solomon is killed. At that time, Solomon and him talk about Solomon's "wish", and Dantalion is told that he one day will grant Solomon's wish.

On one of Solomon's birthdays, as Dantalion was frustrated at Solomon's lax attitude, Solomon's brother advanced on them with an army, and Solomon was forced to take up arms against him. With the help of the pillars, Solomon won the war and 1035 BC, he was made the third King of Ancient Israel. When Solomon requested that his father ackowledged him as his son, king David said that Solomon shouldn't have been born into the world, Dantalion heard and recalled the same word being told to him.

Solomon made the land of Israel prosper, but the same coulnd't be said about himself.  After Solomon sent his sister to marry a man far away, Dantalion once more asked what it was that Solomon wished for. Solomon told him that it is something that only Dantalion can do. To play his flute; and he recalled the time when he once did. He realizes that what Solomon wishes for it to be killed by him one day.
