[Name]: Dantalion
[Canon]: Makai Ouji: Devils & Realist
[Age]: between a couple hundred and a thousand years old
[Gender]: Male
[Canon Point]: Pre-series; still living with Solomon

[History]: written here up until his taken canon point. The setting is normally 1800s England, but he's in Israel in the BC 900s right now.

[Personality]:

Dantalion is a very proud demon, and might sometimes (most of all depending on who you ask) be called conceited and selfish. But he loves competitions, and even more enjoys winning them. He can show a very pure joy at winning something simple as a human ball game. He is athletic, and enjoys physical activities the most. For a demon, he can be much too pure to be called one. Though he might say that "human games are too easy, it's boring" but once he gets hooked on something new and exciting, he has a hard time taking his attention from it. He might love being praised a bit too much, however, and he might even start sparkling when he's too excited or feel too proud.

On the other hand, he dislikes gatherings like parties and other festivities, where people gather to share superficial compliments. It's just not something that he likes. Why will be brought up in a paragraph further down. And even though he might brag about experience with ladies and the pretense at actually enjoying a party (when he actually attends) he isn't very good with the noble ladies of the demon court. Not that he's not popular; quite the opposite. But if they fall for him just because he was being polite and helped when they tripped, or such things, they instantly become much too troublesome to be around.

He's not pure though. There are pure demons, like Sitri, but Dantalion really isn't pure. He knows a lot about love, even if he's never really (been aware of being in) love(d), at least not since he became a demon. He'll let you know he's well-versed with the art of love, but he's not at all an expert. He will tease anyone who is unfamiliar with the concepts, though. He also doesn't care about gender, at least from what he hints at. Though that seems like a slip of the tongue when he told William that whatever he did, he couldn't fall for a demon.

As noted by Solomon, Dantalion is a very lonely person behind his display of confidence and arrogance. When he stayed with Solomon, Jerusalem became like a second home to him, where he didn't have to be lonely, like he often was in the demon world. His feelings are surprisingly easy to hurt, and while he can easily cover it up, it has happened that he has cried at especially harsh words. He's foolish and sometimes, he has difficulties understanding his own feelings. He's what you would call a tsundere, who says they think someone is annoying when they actually like them. But that's rare, because he doesn't get that attached to people easily. These traits mostly show when it comes to Solomon, who he might say is nothing but troublesome, but whom is his closest friend.

He still has nightmares about the time when people told him he should not have been born into the world, that it was because he was born that their tribe was destroyed. He hates these nightmares, and a triggering factor is being lonely, or being told something that causes him to remember. One such time was when Solomon told him to "play your flute.” and ”after all, you're not one of us. You traitor.", he was shocked beyond words, because those words made him both recall the past, and made him realize that Solomon wanted to be killed by his hands.

He's a bit suspicious by nature, and doesn't trust too easily unless he sees reason to. Most of all if he suspects a person of being a demon, he'll be on his guard if there is someone that he feels he has to protect. This is because while he was a human, he was hated by everyone. He's extremely tired of being discriminated over being a nephilim, instead of being born a demon. Sitri said to him during a fight "a nephilim who can't become a complete demon really wants to be saved? How pathetic," which upset Dantalion greatly. It made him sad, knowing that he won't fit in completely anywhere, no matter what he does, but he hid this behind fury and arrogance.

Also because of this. he has difficulties with people showing kindness to him, and it's because Solomon was so kind to him that he was nice in return. As a result, he is also nice to William, as the boy is the reincarnation of Solomon even if he is Solomon's opposite.

There are many things that are just troublesome,. For example, things like paperwork and other serious business, and if he had to choose between that and dressing up as a woman, he would choose dressing up as a woman any day. Other things that frustrates him and that he finds troublesome is Solomon's habit of making a mess in the library, even when Dantalion tells him to clean up, or at least to not bring out mountains of books at the same time. The most annoying thing is that Dantalion has to clean up Solomon's mess.

He's a helpful guy, but his intentions might not always be clear to others, and sometimes not even to himself. He cares for the people that he gets attached to, and greatly dislikes seeing those that he cares for being sad, lonely or hurt. The closest he's ever been to someone is Solomon, and he doubts that he will ever have a friend like Solomon, or a bond like the one that they shared.

He has a tendency to worry himself sick over Solomon, and while it's nothing he admits quickly, or maybe never, is that he actually cares. He's a much kinder person than he likes to pretend, and he secretly likes children. At least some of them, even if not all. Though when scolding them, like Lamia, he might hit them, even if it's not hard by his standards. Many times, Dantalion finds Solomon collapsed underneath books, and this causes him to worry greatly. He might protest loudly at being told what to do by Solomon, but he will still do it, even if he's flustered and annoyed. Having his concern pointed out is really embarrassing.

He has been called a trickster at several occasions, and this rings true. He is a cunning man who shows no hesitation when lying (be it about having poor health or family troubles). He's very skilled at acting, really, even if he has the need to get better at not showing when he is flustered. Most often, there are grains of truth in his lies, as when he said it was his first time attending school, when he first came to William's school. This is true, but his excuse of it being because he has poor health, is not. He even steals, if he finds it necessary as means to his goal. He's a bit of a cheater when it comes to games like cards, but he also has a fools luck when playing. He loses very rarely.
He's not always the smartest, though, and William often calls him a "muscle-head". Not that he's incapable in the brains department, he is actually intelligent. Not the most intelligent demon around, granted, but he's got a sharp head on his shoulders none the less. He's well aquainted with battle strategies, and well-versed in sword play.

There are times when Dantalion is easily tricked, like when he is tricked by Sitri to return to the demon world; Sitri pretends to be up to something and that's enough to make Dantalion to return for a while. He's a bit stupid, a bit simple-minded. Make that a lot simple-minded, actually. He's easily taken aback by people like Solomon, Asatroth and William, among others.

He's so tired of idiots, like Solomon and several of his pillars. He does not understand the way the human mind works; like William's steadfast realism, and Solomon's ability to not hate his father even though he locked him in a tower for many long years. Had it been him and his father treating him like that, he might have killed him due to hating being resented. People are just so difficult to understand most of the time, and that especially concerns humans. He can't really understand their fickle and weird minds. Solomon always manages to surprise him, right from the moment that they first met. Besides that, it's terrifying how both Solomon and William are able to order around demons so easily, even without the use of any power over words.

According to him, it's a disgrace for high level demons to take hostages. On the other hand, Sitri says that Dantalion is uncivilized. He hates when people (like Gilles) does creepy disgusting things like coming out from between his (Dantalion's) legs, because dammit, why would a person even choose to make an appearance from there?

He is easily annoyed, and dislikes it when people just do what they want with his property. He doesn't care to hide his annoyance, either, and he's an outright rude person. He's a picky eater and rarely likes and food made by humans. He's a loud complainer, and tends to mutter a bit louder than under his breath when he is dissatisfied. He once told Gille de Rais that he thought he (Gilles) had been buried when he (Dantalion) rebuild his house. He really would have preferred it if Gilles had really been buried and unable to get out, because Gilles always manages to get on his nerves, no matter what he does; be it picking a fight, as well as flirting with him. He does not understand why he, as a grand duke of hell, should perform menial tasks such as cleaning. But when it comes to Solomon, of course he does as he is asked, even if it's cleaning the library, or getting the grapes.

He even strangles Gilles on sight, that's how much he loathes him. He hates it even more when the idiot just laughs it off and keeps calling him darling. If he loses control of himself, in battle, he is ruthless, vicious and merciless, thirsting for blood and the death of his foes. If you mention his life as a human, he'll become enraged and go berserk.
But he can be lenient, since he also told Gilles that he would let him off for destroying his house and attacking William. But if he's ticked further after he decides to try getting rid of a menace that way, he won't back out of a fight. He's not beyond name calling, especially when he's angry or when he's messing with someone (or just trying to be mean) and he knows how to hit someone hard in their feelings with his words. If he gets serious in a fight, he shows no mercy, no matter who it is, and he devotes himself completely to crushing his opponent.

Now, Dantalion's goal is, in the future, to be elected King in the demon world. But what about from the time he is taken? That's a bit harder. For one, he greatly dislikes the feeling of loneliness. Even if he's among people, there are times when he feels so left out that he doesn't want to exist, and he sinks into himself and starts to think about things that he really doesn't want to think about. He wants to protect Solomon, and he wants to be able to stay with him. He wishes to not be hated like he was back when he was alive, or alone like he was in the demon world, before he met Solomon.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]: He's got incredible stamina and endurance. His grip is very powerful too, and chains are like twigs in his hands. Another quirk of a demon is the ability to understand any language, spoken or written.

He is a very powerful greater demon, and he is one of Lucifer's favorite demons, partially because of his strength. His element is mainly, but not limited to, fire. He can send off incredible blasts of magic at his opponents, and he can even create buildings out if only minimal pieces with a snap of his fingers. He has to repair his house more than once because of Gilles de Rais' destruction, for example.

But he does not only have offensive magic, he can also protect with barriers and the likes. He can create big barriers that hinders people from entering and exiting places, and can hinder humans from seeing what happens within them.

He uses simpler magic as well, though, like changing shape and material of things (he has turned rubble into gold) create illusions, both smaller and bigger. He has the ability of flight, thanks to his magic. He can also teleport between dimensions (that is, the human world and the demon world; it's not like he has any intentions of going to heaven, so he might or might not be able to go there as well) but he can also teleport between locations in one world, without leaving the dimension he's in. He can also talk to animals.

Something that can snuff out his powers is the contract with Solomon, that he never broke. Because of this, even William can order him, and he can't disobey.

However, demons have to sleep once in a while, for a long time, to be able to stay alive for long.

[Limited Powers]: It's the general limitations; not able to use his magic to fly or teleport between islands, and of course, he can't create things that he doesn't know about. Even if he gets to know about it. Like trains, or how about not being able to create ships through magic. Maybe life boats, but not bigger than normal sized ones. And generally, he'll be unable to create big things, or, for example, create that jewel everyone is looking for.

[Other Important Facts]: I dunno really.

How incredibly amusing. [ Despite his words, the man with the pointy ears and sharp teeth sounds completely unamused. ] I must say, I did not expect to end up in a place like this. In a place from where I can't return to Hell, that is. It's most curious how it's even possible, is there something very different with this worlds Hell? Or does it not exist? What about Heaven?

None the less, I suppose this is a bit of a chance to take a break from being treated as Solomon's house-keeper. This place looks like it could provide its fair share of entertainment, as well, and as long as no one I know is here, I think I'll do just fine. Anyway, I'd be bored just being stuck on this island, so if you have any suggestions on where I could go, please do give me a heads up.

[ And he's done. Being polite is so tiring when you make public announcments, and he can't see how Solomon handles it so well. But the human is the king, so he doesn't have any choice but to choose his words well, he supposes. ]
